For this album cover, Deep Cricket Night wanted cover art with a raw, loose drawing quality rather than something polished or digital. The timing worked out perfectly. I had been doing a lot of black brush pen drawing on my own and had also recently completed a large oil painting with shapes and forms that I felt translated directly to the concept of a mind being flayed.

I drew the cover art with a black ink brush pen, photographed it, and brought it into Photoshop where I added the blue background that gives the final piece its atmosphere. The combination of hand-drawn linework against that color created exactly the raw, unsettling tone the album called for.

The back cover came from a low resolution photo the band had taken during the solar eclipse that year. I manipulated it in Photoshop to bring out its eerie quality and used it as a counterpoint to the hand-drawn front.

I also created an animated piece for the band to promote one of the songs on this album, which is featured separately in this portfolio.
